[ENG] EARTH HOUR SWITCH OFF THE LIGHTS, DEPUTY MAYOR ASSERTS SUSTAIN IMPLEMENTATION ACTS

JAYAPURACITY – World Wild Fund for Nature (WWF) Indonesia for Papua Program conducted a yearly event of Earth Hour at Imbi Park, North Jayapura. Deputy Mayor of Jayapura Ir Rustan Saru, MM asserts for the sustainable implementation of this action. “The Government of Jayapura City appreciates this action commemorating Save Earth by campaigning switch off the lights or electricity, furthermore this action hopefully invite and engage more people to do the act,” he says, on Saturday (24/03).

Director of WWF Indonesia for Papua Program Drs Benja V Mambai, MSi said that the Earth Hour action held for the second time in Jayapura City since previously take place in Genyem, Jayapura Regency. “Internationally this Earth Hour already commemorated in Australia in 2007 by switching off the lights or any electrical devices, and this is the eleventh year of the commemorated in the world,” he says.

Benja reports the world Earth Hour commemoration involved 152 countries and 7 thousand cities in the world. While in Indonesia involved 65 cities across the province in 2018. Deputy Mayor wants that Jayapura City stands as a pioneer of the capital in Papua Province, East Indonesia, to campaign the commitment of saving the earth. WWF Indonesia for Papua Program is mostly initiated and driven by youth, and previously held some activities such kind cleaning Youtefa Bay from plastics waste, Cenderawasih Bird preservation campaign, and contribute in Cyclop mountain preservation as water sources.
